Problem mit der Installation auf XenServer

Ahoy,

Wir haben einen Problem:
die Installation von MobyDick auf XenServer will nicht klappen.
Die Suche dazu hier im Forum hat nur diesen Thread Thread ergeben,
ist aber nicht wirklich hilfreich.

Umgebung:
XenServer 6.2 build number 70446c build date 2013-06-21
mit Patsches Applied: XS62E001, XS62E002, XS62E004
Virtualisierungssupport ist im Bios eingeschaltet, es sind andere
VMs erfolgreich am laufen (ein Debian NFS server, Sophos UTM)

MobyDick Installationsimage md_iso_70302_64bit.iso
MobyDick Livedisk (Setup) version 2.02.00.R

Problem: MobyDick scheint die Festplatte nicht zu erkennen.

Nach dem Boot kommt der Installer mit der Auswahl der Sprache,
dann dem Hinweis, dass alle Daten auf der Festplatte gelöscht werden,
dann steigt der Installer aus mit folgendem Screen:


ERROR: Could not mount harddisk, starting debug shell…

XenServer sagt, die Platte wäre unter /dev/hda eingebunden,
im der debug shell von MobyDick sieht man unter
/sys/block nur sr0

Hallo,

welchen HDD Controller emuliert die VM ? Wie gross ist die virtuelle HDD ?

Die Größe der Platte ist über 8GB, ich habe nun alle möglichen Templates für linux und windows probiert.
Welchen HDD Controler der XenServer emuliert ist mir nicht bekannt.

hast Du einmal ein “anderers” Linux Live System gebootet ? Wird dort die HDD erkannt ?

ja, wie schon gesagt - Debian Wheezy und Sophos UTM (Astaro) liessen sich problemlos installieren, bzw booten. Auch Windows 2003 R2.

auf die MobyDick VM könntest Du also Debian 7 installieren ?
Starte einmal das Debian in der MobyDick VM und poste den Output von “dmesg”.

Ok, mittlerweile bin ich soweit - ich habe die MobyDick mal in eine Vmware Fusion installiert, und den .vdmk disk dann in den XenServer importiert.
mit dem gleichen Effekt - die Kiste findet die Festplatte nicht… (und auch andere devices wie eth0, etc - überhaupt sieht es so aus, dass das /dev/ filesystem nicht gemountet ist)

Also - diese virtuelle Maschiene mit MobyDick mal mit Debian-live-7.0.0-amd64-rescue.iso gebootet, alles läuft normal, Festplatte wird als /dev/xvda erkannt, hier ist das dmesg
(Das Dmesg von der MobyDick selber könnte ich nur in Bildschirm-Fotos liefern, da die kiste ja ohne Netzwerk kommt, und ich den Text nicht rauskopieren kann…)

in deinen Protokollen sehe ich den ATA Controller. Auch das virtuelle CD-ROM ist am ATA angebunden. Aber ich sehe KEINE HDD dort. Überprüfe bitte ob die Festplatte korrekt in der VM eingebunden ist.

wenn ich debian live cd boote, dann kann ich auf die Festplatte
z.B. per fdisk -l /dev/xvda zugreifen, also ja, die festplatte ist in der VM.

die HDD unter /dev/xvda ist eine “paravirtualized Xen disk”. Dies unterstützt die MobyDick nicht (@Mathias berichtige mich wenn dies falsch ist). Die musst die XEN Virtualisierung umstellen auf “straight-up SCSI disk emulation” dann sollte die HDD unter /dev/sda auftauchen.

Also - ich habe es gerade gelöst.

Eure 64bit version unterstützt den Xenserver nicht.
die Lösung heißt, mit der md_iso_70302_32bit.iso zu installieren, da geht es alles wie es soll.

die 32bit und 64bit Version der MobyDick sind bis auf den Architekturunterstützung identisch. Bist Du sicher, dass Dein XEN Server einen 64bit Gast unterstützt?

Ja, da bin ich mir sicher. Wir haben Debian 64Bit VMs dort laufen.
zb: Linux nfs 3.2.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.2.46-1+deb7u1 x86_64 GNU/Linux
und auch die ISO von der “Debian-live-7.0.0-amd64-rescue” lässt sich problemlos booten und kann auf die Ressourcen der VM zugreifen.

Der Tipp mal die 32Bit version von MD zu versuchen kam dann auch von meinem RZ-Betreiber, die meinten das “Problem zu kennen”.

danke für Deine Rückmeldung. Das ist komisch. Wir testen eigentlich gegen XEN mit 64 Bit Gästen und haben einen Standard Debian Kernel aus den Squeeze Backports. Ich werde mir das nochmals ansehen und ggf. hier was posten.

ich melde mich hier, da ich eine Frage zu XenServer bzw. XenServer Tool habe, und hier scheint mit die Frage am richtigen Ort zu sein.

Ich habe ein Upgrade vom XenServer vom Version 6.2 auf 6.5 gemacht. Ich habe aber die Virtualisierung vom xs-tools.iso immer noch auf 6.2. Alle andere VMs konnte ich aktualisieren. Die arbeiten aber mit Windows Server oder Debian mit GUI :-).

Meine Frage ist, wie gelange ich überhaput zur CD / DVD bei MobyDick, sodass ich diese aktualisieren vornehmen kann? Mansche werden vielleicht lachen - macht aber nichts :-).

probiere mal folgendes, nachdem du die CD mit den Tolls über das Xencenter eingelegt hast:

mount -t iso9660 /dev/dvd /mnt/

Dann sollte Dir der Inhalt unter /mnt zur Verfügung stehen.
